WhatsApp Payment Service received approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Thursday, November 5 to move to the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in a multi-bank model.

NPCI has said that WhatsApp can expand its UPI user base in a phased manner. Let us know that this private messaging service owned by Facebook has more than 400 million users in India.

In August, NPCI told the Reserve Bank of India that WhatsApp has met the needs of data localization.

Brazil became the first country to start WhatsApp payment service in June.

In India, WhatsApp payment service will be in competition with other major players such as Google Pay and PhonePe.
