On November 4, Maharashtra Police arrested Republic TV owner and editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami. Arnab has been arrested in a case of abetment to suicide in 2018.

After Arnab’s arrest, BJP leaders reacted, comparing it to emergency, calling it a threat to ‘freedom of the press’. Many BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah to Union Ministers Smriti Irani, Prakash Javadekar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, supported Arnab Goswami.

The support Goswami got from the leaders exposes the right-wing hipocracy in the country. After Arnab’s arrest, many people took to the streets to protest his arrest and called it an abuse of power against Republic TV.

But when journalists like Prashant Kanaujia, and activists like Omar Khalid and Dr Kafil Khan were arrested, right-wing people refused to speak out against it and called it a ‘law’. So why was everyone silent on the arrest of other journalists?
