Prime Minister Trudeau has promised Canadians that he is cracking down when it comes to
Afterto amend the Criminal Code & the Firearms Act on 16th February, he took to Twitter to share his action plan going forward.
PM Trudeau described the new legislation as “the strongest measures to combat gun violence that our country has ever seen.”
He explained that it intends to build uponintroduced by the federal govt, including announced in 2020.
“These weapons were designed to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible – & they have no place on our streets or in our society. Period,” he added.
In addition, the legislation would strengthen rules onfor those who want to obtain a license for owning a firearm.
“Going forward, these checks must take into account the applicant’s lifetime history – not just the preceding five years,” explained Trudeau.
While there are many different aspects to the newthe prime minister reiterated that the overall aim is to keep Canadians as safe as possible.
In a statement after the announcement on Tuesday, he added, “One Canadian killed by gun violence is one too many.”
