Biden vows to revive rule of law, independence of Department of Justice as he picks Merrick Garland as attorney general

“Our first-rate nominees to steer the Department of Justice are eminently qualified, embody character and judgment that’s beyond reproach, and have devoted their careers to serving the American people with honor and integrity,” Biden said during a statement. “They will restore the independence of the department so it serves the interests of the people not a presidency, rebuild charitable trust within the rule of law, and work tirelessly to make sure a more fair and equitable justice system.”
